“Despacito” Became The Most-Viewed Youtube Video Ever in Just Seven Months since its releasement.

Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’ s song “Despacito” became the most-viewed YouTube video ever on 4 August 2017, surpassing the previous record-holder, “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa.

“Despacito” broke the record in less than 7 months from his release in January 2017, making it the fastest video on Youtube to reach the milestones of 2 billion and 3 billion views. Meanwhile, “See You Again” has been out since 2015, and wore the crown for the most-viewed video for less than a month, from July 10 to August 4, 2017.

“Despacito” is both Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s biggest single to date, and it became the first song primarily in Spanish to peak at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 since “Macarena” in 1996.

It also reached the #3 position on Spotify’s Global Chart, the highest position ever achieved by a Spanish single in history, and was ranked as the fifth-best Latin song of all time by Billboard.

Daddy Yankee took to Billboard’s Instagram account to post a short video, responding to the honor of being the new king of YouTube.

“Thank you YouTube for Despacito’s success,” he says in clip. “I recognize the influence that the platform has. The music industry has changed. The rules of music have changed. And YouTube has a big responsibility, and I recognize it. Breaking the record is overwhelming, and I’m happy to keep inspiring others to do the same.”
