The K-pop phenomenal singer, PSY, set 10 World Records in two years.

PSY managed to set five world records in 2012, thanks to his marvel song Gangnam Style. Three of those five records were broken by the music video of Gangnam Style, which made history on the sharing platform Youtube. The Gangnam Style was ranked as the most viewed and liked video on Youtube and aswell the first Youtube video to reach the 1 billion/2 billion mark.

  •  Currently, PSY is the holder of 4 world records, three of them are set as the first person, that means he will hold his records forever.

‘Gangnam Style’ ranks as the most played K-pop music video on YouTube.

In September 2012, Gangnam Style by PSY set a new record for the most-watched K-pop video in Youtube history after surpassing the music video ‘Gee’ by Girls’ Generation with 89 million views.

After almost 7 years, ‘Gangnam Style’ is still holding the world record with 3.5 billion views, but that’s not all.

  • On the second spot, as the Most Viewed K-pop song on Youtube ranks another of his songs, Gentlemen with 1.2 billion views.
  • On 3rd spot ranks BlackPink’s ‘Ddu-du ddu-du du,’ and 4th ranks BTS with DNA, but none hit the 1 billion views mark.

 On 13th September 2012, “Gangnam Style” by Psy set record for the most “liked” video in Youtube history, after gained 1.57 million likes and surpassed LMFAO “Party Rock Anthem.”

  •  As of Feb. 2020, the video of ‘Gangnam Style’ has gathered 17M likes and 2.3M dislikes, ranking as Psy’s most successful song.

 Currently, Luis Fonsi holds the record with his song video for ‘Despacito,’ which scored 33 million likes and 4 million dislikes.

First K-pop song to peak at #1 on the UK Chart.

On 6 October 2012, PSY set a world record that is his forever, becoming the first K-pop singer to top the UK singles chart when his song Gangnam Style climbed from No.3 to No.1, locking up the top spot for a week.

 PSY is also the first K-pop artist to make it to the top of the iTunes Music video Chart when the worldwide hit Gangnam Style reached No.1 in August 2012.

For 5 years, starting on 24th November 2012, Gangnam Style lock up the world record for the most-watched video on Youtube until July 2017, when Wiz Khalifa “See You Again” surpassed him.

  • With 3.5 billion views as of February 2020, Gangnam Style ranks as the 7th most-watched video from Youtube history, and as one of the seven videos that exceeded three billion views.

Currently, the record holder is Luis Fonsi’s track Despacito, which ranks as the first and only video to reach 6 billion views.

Gangnam Style set 2 World Records: the First Youtube Video to reach 1 billion views and also the Fastest to achieve this threshold

On 21 December 2012, the music video of PSY’s “Gangnam Style” broke the world record, becoming the first video in Youtube history to be viewed more than a billion times at just 159 days after its upload.

  • After more than two years in June 2015, Bieber’s music video for ‘Baby’ became the 2nd video to reach the 1 billion views mark, and by October 2015 – the other nine videos achieved this mark.
  • In February 2016, at just 87 days from its upload, the music video of ‘Hello’ by Adele surpassed PSY for the Fastest time for a video to reach 1 billion views on YouTube. 

Gentlemen smashed 3 World Records: Two for The Most Viewed Video online in 24 hours and The Fastest to reach 100 million views.

On 14th April 2013, Gentlemen broke the world record for the most viewed video online in its first 24 hours, receiving over 38 million views on Youtube and most views in any 24 hours.

  • Psy’s video held both most-viewed records for 4 years  until August 2017, when was overthrown by Swift’s video of Look What You Made Me Do?

At only four days after its release, Gentlemen became the fastest music video to reach 100 million, holding the record for over 6 years until Blackpink surpassed it with “Kill This Love” in 2019.

  • Psy’s Gentlemen was also the fastest overall video to reach 200 million views.
  • In 25 days it reached 300 million views and 400 million in 55 days. At 110 days after its release, it reached 500 million views.

PSY holds the world record for the first video to reach 2 billion views on YouTube.

 On 31 May 2014, Psy broke another world record when ‘Gangnam Style’ became the first Youtube video to reach more than two billion views on the world’s largest video platform.

  •  As of 12 June 2019, there are only 34 Youtube videos that reached the 2 billion views mark.

 By December 2014, the music video of Gangnam Style forced Youtube to upgrade, after it broke the platform hit counter when it reached 2,147,483,647 views, the maximum positive value for a 32-bit signed binary integer in computing.
