Ed Sheeran Sings In Game Of Thrones Season 7 Premiere

Sheeran made a cameo appearance as a Lannister bannerman in Game of Thrones.

He appeared in the first episode named Dragonstone from the seventh season of the fantasy series. He was part of the Lannister detachment that Arya meet by chance after she killed the entire house, Frey.

You can see Sheeran around a campfire in the forest, singing “Hands of Gold” when Arya Stark rides past on horseback. Then she tells him:

“It’s a pretty song, I’ve never heard it before,” to which he responded, “It’s a new one.”

This is a key scene when Ed the soldier, teaches Arya a vital life lesson. She gets to see that, the Lannister troops are not mercenaries, as she thought but contains some nice boys, who only wish is to come back home safe.

The main reason behind Ed Sheeran cameo is Maisie Williams, who is a big fan of the singer.

David Benioff, the co-showrunner, said they had many attempts over the years to give him a cameo. And it finally happened.

“Sheeran has got a beautiful voice, and we knew that he was a fan of the show, and we knew that Maisie Williams was obsessed with him. So we always thought it would be fun to try to get him into a Maisie scene at some point.”

Everyone assumed that Arya will chop their Lannister throats, in the scene, as a matter of fact even Sheeran thought this.

“When I first got the scene and I saw I was a Lannister soldier and it was Maisie. I just assumed we’d all get killed at the end” he said.

Sheeran celebrated straightaway his appearance in Game of Thrones With a series of photos on Instagram.
