Kendrick Lamar, It’s the First Rapper in History to Win a Pulitzer Music Prize

 In April 2018, Kendrick Lamar entered history books by becoming the first rapper to win a Pulitzer for music.

Lamar’s album “Damn” made history by being the first win for a non-classical or jazz album, since 75 years ago when The Pulitzer Awards began including music. However, at the beginning of the music prizes, the Pulitzer Award was usually won by classical music (operas or symphonies).

Released on 14th April 2017, “DAMN” is Kendrick Lamar Duckworth’s fourth album. The paths of destiny are tangled because The Pulitzer Prize Record was broken on April 16, 2018, at precisely one year distance since the release of the winner album.

  • His album also won the Grammy trophy for Best Rap Album at the 60th Annual Ceremony.
  • The first track released from the album is “Humble,” and it became Lamar’s first #No1 single as lead artist on the Hot 100 chart.

The Pulitzer board described Kendrick Lamar’s 2017 album:

“a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity… and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life.”

Since the news pop up, Lamar made two appearances over the weekend at California’s Coachella. But Kendrick Lamar didn’t make any comment. The president of Lamar’s label Top Dawg Entertainment, Punch, tweeted:
