The music streaming giant Spotify has shared insights about the top most-streamed albums, songs, and artists of 2018.

Recently, Spotify has revealed its annual statistics, and we’ll focus on the top five most-streamed albums of 2018. Drake reigns over the top most-streamed albums, which also features records from artists like Ed Sheeran, Post Malone, and XXXTentacion. This chart includes Dua Lipa as well, being the surprise and the only female singer with an album in the global top five. Spotify reported having a base of 200 million monthly active users, including 87 million paid subscribers worldwide. With this huge user-base and the provided access to more than 40 million songs, Spotify has an endless insight into what the world listens.

So, which are the Spotify’s most-streamed albums in 2018?

 On #5 ranks “÷” (Divide) by Ed Sheeran.

The British songwriter and singer Ed Sheeran released his third album ÷ (Divide) on 3 March 2017.  In its first 24 hours, the Divide album reached 56.73 million streams on Spotify, surpassing the previous record holder. Sheeran hasn’t released anything recently, but his album ÷ (Divide) keeps him at the top. Surprisingly, his pop album it’s the fifth most-streamed album of 2018 on Spotify.

On #4 ranks “Dua Lipa” by Dua Lipa.

In June 2017, Dua Lipa released her self-titled album, which became the 4th most-streamed album of 2018  on Spotify. By doing so, Dua Lipa is the only female artist with an album in the top five. Spotify ranked Dua Lipa as the most-streamed female singer in the UK and as the second most-streamed female artist of 2018.

On #3 ranks “?” by XXXTentacion.

On 16th March 2018, the South Florida rapper XXTENTACION, launched his second album ”?,” the freshest released record before his death in a robbery 4 months later. Before his death and due to the several allegations of crimes, Spotify removed XXTENTACION music from their promoted playlists. Despite this, the rapper’s album appears in their top, being the third most-streamed album of 2018 on Spotify.

On #2 ranks “Beerbongs & Bentleys” by Post Malone.

Post Malone dropped his second studio album, Beerbongs & Bentleys, on 27 April 2018. In its day of release, the album broke Spotify’s one-day global record for album streams with 78.7 million plays. Two months later Drake’s album, Scorpion, surpassed the B&B. But, in spite of losing the crown, Beerbongs & Bentleys was the second most-streamed album of 2018 on Spotify.

On #1 ranks “Scorpion” by Drake.

Drake broke a streaming record on June 29, the day when his fifth album, Scorpion, was released. Drake’s album broke Spotify’s one-day global record for album streams, with over 132.45 million streams in its first 24h.  Further, “Scorpion” by Drake is the most-streamed album of 2018 on Spotify. The Scorpion album eclipsed with more than 50 million streams the Spotify’s previous 24-hour record holder, Beerbongs & Bentleys by Post Malone.
