At the 61st Grammy ceremony, the rapper and producer Childish Gambino received five nominations.The song ‘This Is America’ was the most significant surprise of the award festivities winning four of the most wanted trophies.

  • The political anthem “This Is America” became the first rap song ever to win the Grammy award for song of the year. Additionally, this is Childish Gambino’s greatest music triumph, which established him as the first hip hop artist who won the Record and Song of the year.
  • Furthermore, “This Is America” won the Record of the year 2019, for which Childish had to beat out the winner of the best performance of a pop duel, “Shallow” by Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga.
  • The song video “This Is America” won the Grammy trophy for Best Music Video of the year. The video is certainly a protest against racism, discrimination and mass shooting, which shocked the American Society. The music video directed by the producer Hiro Murai reached over 485 million views on YouTube as of February 2019.
  • Finally, the last Grammy award of the evening won by “This is America but not least, is Best Rap/Sung Performance. This is America is a song collaboration between Childish and other rap artists like 21 Savage, Young Thug, and Quavo.
